Obama yesterday signed a bill that will allow California to maintain its emissions regulations, which Bush was opposed to. There were a few protests yesterday in California, which partly induced Obama to sign the bill. The bill also demanded the EPA lower the nationwide emissions regulations.

Bruno
Joseph L. Bruno, an upstate New York Republican, was majority leader of the New York State Senate from 1994 to June of last year. In that time, he was one of the "three men in a room,'' the common phrase for the way virtually all state business is settled in private by the governor and leaders of the Legislature's two houses.
Yesterday, a federal grand jury indicted Bruno on eight counts including mail and wire fraud. Bruno was charged with taking millions of dollars from companies seeking to do business with the state, from labor unions, ending a long-running investigation into one of New York’s most powerful political persons.
Bruno has been charged under an anti-corruption law making it a crime to deprive citizens of honest services from their elected officials. Bruno is accused of collecting more than 3 million dollars over a 13 years, starting in 1993, from a bunch of businessmen looking for state contracts and grants, as well as contracts to manage pension fund investments for at minimum, 16 labor unions. Bruno has repeatedly said he had not done anything wrong.
Back in late 2006, after word got out that federal authorities were investigating Bruno's business dealings, his hold on power had looked endangered. The election of Eliot Spitzer, a tough former prosecutor swept into office with a mandate for ethical reform, also seemed to bode ill for Bruno. But Bruno first outmaneuvered Spitzer to blunt his initiatives, then saw the tables turned when the governor and several of his top aides came under scrutiny in mid-2007 for utilizing state police data to gather damaging information on Bruno.
A different kind of setback came with the results of a special election in February of last year: a Democrat took a senate seat that had been hogged by Republicans for a century, cutting Mr. Bruno's majority to one vote. But less than two weeks later Mr. Spitzer's sudden resignation in the wake of revelations about his ties to a prostitution ring seemed to reshuffle the political deck yet again.
In June of last year, though, surrounded by signs that the federal investigation was intensifying, Bruno announced that he would not run for re-election and resigned his leadership position. He took a job as the chief executive officer of an information-technology company, CMA Consulting Services, that has many state contracts.

Here are a few events happening over the course of the week that are sure to make you laugh.
On Sunday at the Frontier Bank in Rock Rapids, Iowa, a deer broke through a window setting off an alarm, and fled before police arrived. The police stated that the deer was “looking for a few bucks.”
The weather in Germany not too long ago was cloudy with a chance of a kitty. A German TV station’s weather forecaster doing his two minute update when apparently he found a cat walking on the bottom of the set. The forecaster picked the frisky feline up and held it in his arms for the rest of the report.
At the Washland Auto Spa in Portland, Oregon, they’ll give you a Brushless Rinse, a Deluxe Wax, and a robber apparently got his face power-washed.

Eavesdropping is Legal?
It was revealed Wednesday and Thurdsay Night on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann on at 8PM Eastern/5 PM Pacific Time in an interview with Russell Tice, a former NSA intelligence analyst that the Bush Administration's NSA was responsible of illegal wire-tapping all communications by all Americans: Phone calls and E-Mail messages. Tice was afraid to admit the NSA doing so during the time Bush was still President. President Obama is opposed to prosecuting Bush and Company on these war crimes for he stated that there are more important things to be done, and that Bush isn't President anymore, so we need to move on.

Day 2 in the White House
Obama's second day as President of the United States. Today, January 22, he signed two executive orders, one to close GITMO Prison Camp within one year, and the other to ban harsh interrogation methods, such as water torture to detainees for the remaining time GITMO is operational. All detainees held will probably be tried on war crimes and few transferred. Also, early this morning, Caroline Kennedy withdrew from the New York Senate Race for personal reasons. New York District 20 First Term Democratic Represenative Kirstin Gillibrand is expected to fill the seat.
